I picked up an order for $4 (You can also get it as part of a combo with Halfsie fries (a mix of regular and seasoned curly fries), two tacos, and a drink for $6).
These were probably the one menu item on Jack's new late night menu that I was least looking forward to trying. Mostly because it features a salty item topped with more salty ingredients. Sure enough, it comes off as very salty but I still found myself eating more...
There are about 10 chicken nuggets to an order, which would cost about $2.50 on there own (so the extra $1.50 nets you some cheese, ranch, and bits of bacon).
The nuggets were fairly soggy from the heat and moisture (steam) of toppings. They tasted pretty much like you'd buy frozen from the supermarket complete with the familiar finely ground, slightly rubbery texture.
I'm not sure I could pick out two cheeses here. It was all melted together (they microwave the sauce before pouring it on) and tasted like a fairly standard warm nacho cheese sauce. There's no extra spices or peppers or anything like that.
The ranch was also very standard and the bacon added a nice smokiness but not an ounce of crunch.
Still, the cheesy ranch and bacon combo works out better than expected. It's not great but not bad either and, like I said before, it's oddly addicting (and terribly salty).
Overall, Jack in the Box's Loaded Chicken Nuggets was somehow more than the sum of its rather mundane parts (you could easily make these at home). It's really something you would sound like a good idea late at night and that's probably the point.
