Judging from these potato chips, Canadians much really love ketchup. They taste less like ketchup-flavored potato chips and more like potato chip-flavored ketchup.
The ketchup flavor almost completely covers up the potato-ness of the chip leaving you with crunchy ketchup. There's a fairly strong vinegary tanginess to it that reminds a little of vinegar and salt chips but with a sweet tomato component. It's an interesting flavor, I'll give it that.
The color is interesting as well. It's not the red of ketchup but more of a purplish beet red; a novel look but not one that would have me guessing "ketchup flavor."
Overall, Lay's Ketchup-flavored potato chips (over)deliver on the promise of ketchup flavor. I can't say I'm a huge fan (as you won't ever see me sucking ketchup out of its packet) but it merits a try should you ever come across them. If you like eating French fries completely doused with ketchup, this is the chip for you.
