Review: Einstein Bros. - Thintastic Bagels

Einstein Bros' new Thintastic Bagels are thinner, lower calorie versions of their regular bagels (i.e. they're bagel thins). They're available in Plain, Whole Wheat, and Everything (topped with a blend of poppy seeds, sesame seeds, onion, garlic, caraway seeds, and salt).

I tried the Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese, while The Woman tried the plain bagel with Garlic Herb Schmear. They're normally $2.65 each with Schmear (but were free because they were giving them away today to promote the new bagels).

As you can tell from the pictures, my Everything Bagel was more like a Some-Very-Little-Things Bagel. For whatever reason their Everything blend didn't want to stay on the Thintastic Bagel and I ended up with not much of anything on my bagel.

Plain Bagel with Garlic Herb cream cheese Schmear

Beyond the whole lack of "Everything," the Thintastic Bagel tastes like a cross between a bagel and a roll of bread. The crust lacks the sheen of the standard bagel and feels more like a bread crust but the crumb has both the flavor and chewiness of a bagel (I think they don't boil like you would with a traditional bagel). It toasted up really well with a nice, crispy crunch. Obviously, with the whole lack of "Everything" (sorry, I'm just having fun typing that), there wasn't much difference between the Plain and Everything Bagel.

Both the garlic herb spread and cream cheese were pretty standard. The garlic herb had an especially nice garlicky flavor.

Overall, Einstein Bros' Thintastic Bagel was pretty good and felt like it would go well as part of a sandwich, especially since I find regular bagels a bit too thick and chewy for proper sandwich making. Try it if you want less bagel but more crunch.
