According to the company, the tea was actually developed by Ms. Winfrey herself, working with Teavana's leading teaologist (the Teavana version of a barista apparently) and director of tea development, Naoko Tsunoda.
Oprah Chai Tea features a blend of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cloves, along with loose-leaf black tea and rooibos. It will be available beginning April 29 in Starbucks and Teavana stores across the US and Canada, as a made-to-order
latte or as loose-leaf tea (to make at home).
As part of the partnership, Starbucks will be making an undisclosed donation for each product sold to the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation, which supports youth education.
One has to wonder if celebrity endorsements will find their way into other Starbucks drinks in the future.
