I picked up an order for $5.99.
These are basically like chicken nuggets but with cheese, sauce, and toppings. The 12 or so chunks are actually cut up pieces of Domino's Boneless Chicken.
Like storebought chicken nuggets, the breading on the chicken never really gets crispy. Some chunks contained a good amount of chicken, while others were mostly breading. The chicken was a little dry, but the sauce covers it up a little. The thing about baked chicken nuggets is that it always feels like something I could easily make at home.
The mango-habanero sauce didn't have much of a mango flavor but delivered an immediate spicy kick that's buoyed by the jalapeno slices. The was a medium amount of heat but it never got too uncomfortable nor did it linger overly long. Beyond the spiciness was a sweetness and slight fruity tang. Like the jalapeno does for the heat, the pineapples boost the sweet and tart notes of the sauce.
The cheese, while nicely melted, seemed to be there solely to make me fat. It didn't add any flavor; any mild notes were covered up by the sauce. I suppose it does serve as the glue that adheres the jalapeno and pineapples to the chicken.
Overall, Domino's Spicy Jalapeno-Pineapple Specialty Chicken was decently enjoyable. I liked the sweet and the heat but the product feels rather pricey for what's essentially chicken nuggets with sauce and a couple of toppings. Especially considering I can get 20 Chicken McNuggets with sweet and sour sauce for less ($5).
