Review - Arby's - Jalapeno Poppers

Arby's Jalapeno Poppers are halved spicy jalapeno peppers filled with cream cheese and breaded before a short trip into a very hot deep fryer.

I picked up an order of 5 Poppers for $2.99.

I guess my local Arby's doesn't sell a lot of these or I just happened upon a slow period in the day but my Jalapeno Poppers were fried to order.

Despite being piping hot, the jalapenos retained some of their fibrous quality. There were reasonably spicy but never got uncomfortable. The breading was nice and crunchy but doesn't offer much in the flavor department.

The cream cheese was nicely melted but mostly provided a creamy bulwark against the heat of the jalapenos. I've always preferred nacho or cheddar cheese for poppers because they offer a bit more intensity and taste.

The most interesting part of Arby's Jalapeno Poppers is the sauce. Each order comes with a sealed cup of Bronco Berry Sauce and it's pretty great. Besides adding the expected tart and sweet notes, there's a notable kick to these (Get it? Bronco? Kick? Hahaha!). It's interesting in a good way.

Overall, Arby's Jalapeno Poppers are nice enough. The jalapeno could be cooked a little more but it you prefer the cream cheese-filled poppers, these are a fair rendition. The Bronco Berry Sauce is great though and would probably also go well with fries.
