Review: Starbucks - Iced Oprah Chai Tea Latte

Starbucks' new Iced Oprah Chai Tea Latte (so-named because it was developed in partnership with Oprah Winfrey) features a brewed blend of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, loose-leaf black tea, and rooibos, served over milk and ice and sweetened with sugar.

I paid $4.25 for a 16-oz Grande (30 cents more than their regular Chai, but 25 cents goes to charity).

If you've ever had chai tea at an India restaurant, Starbucks' rendition is way milder and mixed with a lot more milk. It doesn't taste much like tea so much as it does of sweetened milk and the added spices.

Compared to Starbucks' regular Chai Tea Latte, you get stronger taste of the cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cloves but still not much of the black tea nor the rooibos. It's a little less sweet, and served over ice, it's quite refreshing on a hot day.

Overall, Starbucks' Iced Oprah Chai Tea Latte was cool and tasty. If you like their regular Chai Tea Latte, I find this to be a better version with a bit more flavor. If you're looking for a strong tea flavor though, you might want to try something else. If you're looking for a more "authentic" chai tea, I can't say that I've come across one at a chain restaurant yet.
