News: Chick-fil-A's New Breakfast Items Test Update

Chick-fil-A has been testing out some new items to supplement their current breakfast menu since last year in a few select markets and it looks like they recently updated the test by swapping out some items that probably weren't up to snuff and added some new ones.

According to Mark Baldwin, a spokesman to USA Today, Chick-fil-A plans to roll out all or some of the new items nationally as early as late next year.

"We may choose to only add the products that customers crave the most," Baldwin wrote in a statement.

Here's what's new with a breakdown of each:

- Chicken and Waffle (pictured above)- they took the Maple Waffle that they were testing and added a breakfast portion (think what goes in one of their biscuit sandwiches) of their signature crispy-fried chicken breast. The waffle has stuck and people's heads tend to pop up when they hear "chicken and waffles," so I'd look for this one to make the national menu at some point.

- Cinnamon Swirls - a mini cinnamon roll pastries, served warm and topped with cream cheese icing. These look like a miniature version of the Cinnamon Biscuit Roll that they were testing. I guess people either want something smaller or they're just trying these out to see which does better. This probably means that if either one makes the cut, the current Cinnamon Clusters offered for breakfast are on their way out.

- Egg White Chicken Grill - offering a better-for-you option but sticking to the chicken theme, the breakfast sandwich features a breakfast portion of their new grilled chicken, grilled egg whites, and American cheese on a toasted multigrain English muffin.

- Multigrain Oatmeal with Fresh Fruit - Chick-fil-A's current slow-cooked oatmeal, but with fresh fruit rather than the dried stuff. This one seems to fit with their image quite well and I think most people like fresh fruit over dried.

- Greek Yogurt Parfait - This is the same as their current Yogurt Parfaits, but with Greek yogurt instead of regular yogurt plus fresh blueberries in addition to the current strawberries. Considering that Greek yogurt sales made up 44 percent of the yogurt market last year, fast food chains (like Starbucks, Subway, and Taco Bell) have been looking to add it to their repertoires. It also helps that Greek yogurt tends to have twice the amount of protein of regular yogurt, which makes it a bit more filling (the version Chick-fil-A is offering actually has 1g less than their current offering though).

The current test items are offered in the same markets as the previous items: Middle Georgia, the Inland Empire in California, and the Greater Philadelphia area, plus they've added Memphis, TN to the mix.
