Review: Starbucks - Sausage Croissant Roll

Starbucks' Sausage Croissant Roll features an all-beef sausage with bechamel sauce nestled inside of a flaky croissant roll.

This was new at my local Starbucks. So much so that they didn't actually have it keyed into the register. They charged me the same price as a breakfast sandwich, $2.95, but I have no idea how much it's supposed to cost.

As far as I can tell the "all-beef sausage" is a frankfurter hot dog. A juicy, tasty hot dog, but "hot dog" would have been the more apt descriptor. I guess they thought "hot dog" was too lowbrow?

The bechamel sauce looks to be made with a combo of butter, milk, and Swiss cheese (and flour of course). It adds a generic sort of creaminess that mostly blends into the butter croissant. I'd be happier with just a decent amount of melted cheese.

The croissant turned out pretty nicely after being warmed up. The crust formed a thin, crispy shell, while the inside was hot, moist, buttery, and somewhat flaky (the layers kinda merged and were almost wet near the sausage).

Overall, Starbucks' Sausage Croissant Roll was quite enjoyable, especially if you think that you'd like what is essentially a hot dog with a croissant bun.
