I paid $5.29 for one.
The onion sauce was pretty interesting; somewhat like a barbecue sauce in that it was sweet and tangy but without the smokiness. It didn't taste very onion-y however. I enjoyed it, but the lack of onion was a tad disappointing. I thought that the sauce would have been thicker with pureed onions, but it was much like any of your standard fast food sauces.
The Dijon aioli is the lighter of the two sauces (there was a lot of sauce going on with this sandwich; I felt a touch of Carl's Jr. "If it doesn't get all over the place..." nostalgia) and mostly tasted like mayo with a hint of mustard.
The chicken was satisfyingly crunchy and fairly moist inside. It tasted good with a judicious amount of seasoning.
The sliced red onions were crisp with a bit of bite, but the spring mix was a bit sparse and wilted quickly from the heat of the chicken.
The smoked Gouda got a bit lost between the sauces. It tasted fine on its own, with a lighter smoky flavor than I'd expect from something "double-smoked," but with everything else going on, it mostly just provided a creamy base.
The brioche was pretty good; soft and dense, but not quite buttery or sweet enough.
Overall, I enjoyed Wendy's Smoked Gouda Chicken on Brioche sandwich, but it was a bit too pricey when most of the bells and whistles got lost in the shuffle rather than showcased. Mostly, it tasted like a crispy chicken sandwich with a sweet and tangy sauce.
