First Look at the Card That Gets You Free Starbucks for Life

Starbucks recently released a photo of the Starbucks for Life card, which is good for a free food or beverage at Starbucks once a day, every day for 30 years. As you can see, the card appears to be made of (or made to resemble) hammered gold and is individually numbered and etched with its owner's name. It also comes in an individually numbered wooden box.

As you might guess, there will be only 10 cards in all and you can't buy them. The cards are the grand prizes of the Starbucks for Life sweepstakes, which begins on December 2, 2014 and runs through January 5, 2015. Game codes are given each time you make a purchase with your Starbucks card or mobile app during the promotion period.

There will also be 482,000 instant win prizes including half-pound bags of Starbucks Christmas Blend coffee, Grande holiday beverages, Cranberry Bliss Bars, Tall brewed coffees or teas, and Peppermint Cake Pops.

In case you're wondering, according to the company, the approximate cash value of each Starbucks for Life card comes out to $54,275 or about $1809 each year ($4.96 a day). Update 12/3/14 - Like I guessed, the card itself is made of hammered 10K gold and is estimated by the company to be worth about $5,000. In addition to the 10 to be won in the US, there will also be 3 winners in Canada, and one from the UK.
