Dunkin’ Donuts’ Croissant Donut features flaky layers of croissant glazed like a donut.
I picked some up at my local store for
$2.49 each.
Unfortunately, my croissant donuts were given to me at room temperature. I have no idea how long they had been sitting but they certainly weren’t fresh when I purchased them. I expected the donut to be much lighter and fluffier than what I got. It also would have been nice to have a moist, gooey glaze on the donut instead of the soft shell it becomes over time.
While Dunkin’ Donuts claims the croissant donut is made with 24 buttery layers, I didn’t particularly notice a buttery flavor. The glaze did most of the heavy lifting when it came to taste. I would say the pastry itself was very similar to their regular yeast donuts but they do feature a welcome change in texture. However, for the price I paid for one, I expected a larger departure from the average donut.
Overall Dunkin’ Donuts’ Croissant Donut did not seem worth the price of admission. Perhaps if I was given a warm donut, my opinion would be different but as it stands, this product was disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it as the place to get your fill of the “cronut” craze.
