Review: Taco Bell - Chipotle Chicken Stack

Because Q went ahead and tackled the revival of the Triple Steak Stack, I decided to try Taco Bell's new alternative offering, the Chipotle Chicken Stack. It features the same nine-inch, Mexican-inspired flatbread and three-cheese blend, but with the distinction of chopped chicken instead of steak and the addition of chipotle sauce.

I got one for $4.99.

Taco Bell's website actually lists the Chipotle Chicken Stack as being about 30 grams bigger than the Triple Steak Stack. It was definitely filling and I appreciate the chain using their normal chopped chicken instead of the shredded chicken they've been going with in so many of their new menu items. It makes for less of a mess, which could have been a real problem for this sandwich.

The Triple Steak Stack may be Taco Bell's take on a Philly cheesesteak, but the Chipotle Chicken Stack is much more reminiscent of the Chicken Flatbread sandwich the chain used to carry on the menu. That item was much smaller (and debuted at just 99 cent) but also featured chipotle sauce. The sauce adds a slight but noticeable bit of heat. It also helps add a dimension of flavor to a dish that is otherwise lacking in variety. The cheese was warm and gooey, and did a good job holding the chicken inside the flatbread.

The chicken tastes much less salty than the steak and, in my opinion, has a better texture. But it's also on the plain side when not covered in chipotle sauce, so bites can be hit or miss.

Overall, I liked the Chipotle Chicken Stack but it's pretty one note. Fans of the old Chicken Flatbread sandwich will welcome it, as long as you don't mind paying for the upgrades. I could see myself ordering it again with some extra toppings, maybe jalapeƱos or a cup of salsa.

Q's Note - I ended up trying this one as well and don't have much to add. I found it notably less salty than the Triple Steak Stack but it still needs something else, like maybe the cup of salsa Darius suggests. Also my flatbread wasn't nearly as burnt as yours but I think my chicken pieces were smaller:
