Review: Krispy Kreme - Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Java Chip Donuts

Krispy Kreme's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Java Chips Donuts are part of a limited-time Chocolate Chip-themed line.

They cost $1.19 each or $9.49 for an assorted dozen.

The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Donut features a glazed yeast ring donut with a milk chocolate drizzle, finished with a dollop of chocolate chip cookie dough-flavored Kreme placed on its center.

The globule of chocolate chip cookie dough-flavored Kreme just sank right into the hole in the donut and onto the bottom of the box. I ended up having to scoop it up with a spoon. The flavor is spot-on to chocolate chip cookie dough and the texture is fairly similar.

The donut was soft, airy, and between the drizzle, glaze, and Kreme, quite sweet. The drizzle wasn't very chocolaty, which made it more like plain sweet icing. A unglazed donut with some of that cookie dough Kreme for dipping would be preferable.

The Java Chip Donut features a yeast shell donut filled with chocolate and coffee-flavored Kreme, topped with coffee-flavored icing and mini chocolate chips.

The shell donut has the same soft texture as the ring donut since they're made from the same dough. As for the Kreme and icing, I wouldn't call the coffee flavor bold, but rather mellow but pleasant and very sweet. The chocolate chips are actual Ghiradelli's brand chocolate chips rather than chocolaty chips and add an enjoyable, smooth, chocolate flavor; there's a few chips in the Kreme of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Donut, but it's much more prevalent here.

Overall, both donuts of Krispy Kreme's chocolate chip-themed line were pretty tasty, if a bit overly sweet. If I were to choose between the two, I would go with the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Donut because I really liked the cookie dough Kreme.
