Jimmy Dean's Pulled Pork Biscuit Sandwich features slow-cooked pulled pork on a buttermilk biscuit.
I nabbed one on sale for
99 cents.
The sandwich came with a pretty interesting microwavable packaging:
The top and sides of the sandwich are covered loosely in plastic while the bottom seems to be made of a semi-permeable cotton or paper (or a blend of the two).
Whatever the case, the biscuit didn't have a wet sheen to it like some other microwaved breads I've tried. In fact, the surface was dry and almost (but not quite) crusty.
Inside, the biscuit was spongy and moist but maybe too much so, as it ended up feeling more like a Chinese steamed bun rather than a buttermilk biscuit.
The pork ended up with an overly soft and smooth paste-like consistency, broken up by the occasional chunk of meat. Basically they either cooked the pork for too long or shredded it too finely, or both.
Fortunately, it still tasted fine with a sweet, smoky, and slightly tangy flavor.
Overall, Jimmy Dean's Pulled Pork Biscuit Sandwich was interesting in how it cooked but just okay in how it tasted. While it looked like a biscuit sandwich, it tasted and felt more like a Chinese barbecue pork steamed bun (
bao).
