Review: Wendy's - Crispy Dill Chicken Sandwich

Wendy's Crispy Dill Chicken Sandwich features a crispy chicken patty, dill pickles, cucumber dill sauce, lettuce, and Monterey Jack cheese.

I picked one up for $1.49.

Just to be clear, I am a big fan of pickles. Be it on the side or right there under the bun, I am all for pickles. I still wasn’t sold in the Crispy Dill Chicken, just because I wasn’t sure pickles would be enough to make a sandwich interesting. But I figured if it works for Chick-fil-A, it could work for Wendy's.

The pickles on the Crispy Dill were plenty. I heard a manager explaining how to put them on so they don’t pile too high and apparently eight is the magic number; you might get two or three on an average fast food sandwich. My pickles were firm and just a little sour, not enough to bother the sandwich. They could have been crunchier though.

The cucumber dill sauce was surprising. It’s not quite as thick as mayo nor as flavorful as ranch. However, It did bring a great cool, creaminess to the sandwich. The Monterey Jack cheese didn't do much for me, as it seemed pretty low quality. I’m not sure the Crispy Dill needed it since the sauce paired so well with the other parts.

The lettuce helped out with the crunch and the bread was soft and consistent, although I did have a little trouble with pickles slipping out. My chicken patty was fresh, which definitely helped the general taste of the sandwich.

Overall, Wendy's Crispy Dill Chicken Sandwich is a hit for me. It’s nice to have some options, even on the value menu, and quality pickles with a refreshing new sauce take Wendy's basic chicken sandwich up a notch.
