Review: Burger King - A.1. Hearty Mozzarella Bacon Cheeseburger

Burger King’s A.1. Hearty Mozzarella Bacon Cheeseburger features two 1/4 lb. flame-grilled beef patties, thick-cut bacon, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, onions, and A.1. Thick & Hearty sauce, on a toasted brioche-style bun.

I got one for $6.59.

First of all, “A.1. Hearty Mozzarella Bacon Cheeseburger” is a mouthful so I’ll just refer to it as the “Mozzarella Burger.” Unfortunately, the namesake mozzarella was a disappointment. It served well enough as a standard fast food cheese, adding some gooeyness between the patties, but it didn’t provide much else. They probably would have saved themselves (and me) some money by just sticking with American or cheddar.

The presence of A.1. steak sauce didn’t help the weak cheese much either. It dominated the burger to the point where I was only really tasting it, the onion, and the beef. I honestly wouldn’t mind a burger with just those ingredients, but in this case, the bacon was another casualty of the Thick & Hearty A.1. The lettuce was so moistened by the sauce that it lost any crispness it might have had. Luckily, the onions still provided plenty of crunch.

The Mozzarella Burger’s brioche bun was soft and a little buttery, but just a tad too thin to handle the double helping of beef. That could have just been my particular bun though, as it seemed squished before I even opened it. It would have been nice to have burger of this size come in a box.

Overall, the Mozzarella Burger didn’t work for me. Much like the words in the name of the sandwich are piled together with no real theme or idea, the sandwich is just a combination of toppings that do little to complement each other. Burger King’s beef may still be ahead of many of its competitors but the latest showcase for it lacks their creativity.
