Del Taco's Epic Chicken Avocado Burrito features six slices of Hass avocado, grilled chicken, pico de gallo, fresca lime rice, seasoned black beans, and
salsa casera (homemade salsa) wrapped in a warm flour tortilla.
I bought one for
$5.29.
There was a good amount of avocado inside the burrito and it's definitely the main attraction. The avocado was nice and buttery with a texture that was neither too firm nor too soft. Unfortunately, the distribution was a little skewed with one half feeling like a straight-up avocado burrito. I guess that's great if you really love avocado, but I prefer a bit more balance.
The chicken, rice, and beans provided a nice base for the burrito with a lightly seasoned flavor. The chicken was juicy but the rice was just a little too wet. The beans weren't overly mushy and delivered an enjoyable earthy flavor. While the base was covered, I was hoping the salsa and pico de gallo would add more excitement, but they didn't quite show up over the other flavors.
The flour tortilla sported some nice browning from being pressed and was really well folded; there weren't any bunched up portions. Instead, there was an even single layer pretty much all around that was sturdy despite the generous amount of fillings.
Overall, Del Taco's Epic Chicken Avocado Burrito was a mixed bag for me. It was generally well put together with solid base flavors but lacked punch. Still, it delivered on the promise of avocado (although maybe over-delivering in one half of the burrito) and offered a good amount of food for the price.
