Taco Bell's Bacon Club Chalupa features grilled chicken, avocado ranch sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, three cheese blend, and bits of bacon.
I picked one up for
$2.99.
The chalupa shell offers an interesting pairing between the slightly oily, slightly crispy crust and the soft pillowy crumb. There's something really nice about fried bread.
There wasn't an abundance of chicken but there was just enough from end to end. It offered a decent meaty feel and a nicely seasoned flavor. The chicken was moist but not juicy.
The bacon was good for a smoky, porky flavor but zero crunch. The taste didn't carry quite as well as in Taco Bell's breakfast items but provided an enjoyable undertone.
The avocado ranch tasted just like ranch to me; even isolated, I can't really pick out the avocado notes. If you really want some avocado flavor, your best bet would be to spring a little extra for the guac.
The lettuce and tomatoes were pretty fresh. The lettuce was crisp and the diced tomatoes were firm but ripe. I got a bit more flavor out of the tomatoes than I usually do.
The shredded cheese offered a mellow creaminess that set off well against the produce.
Overall, Taco Bell's Bacon Club Chalupa was pretty good. It could use some more meat but the general flavor is still pretty nice if maybe a little too familiar (it's not much different from a regular Chalupa). For the most part, the quality was there but the lack of any crunch from the bacon was disappointing (but not unexpected).
