Review: Tastykake - 2015 Fall Mini Donuts

Tastykake's 2015 Fall Mini Donuts come in two varieties: Caramel Apple and the almost obligatory Pumpkin Spice.


The Caramel Apple Mini Donuts are covered in a caramel crumb coating and come in a 11.5-oz bag, while the Pumpkin Spice donuts are dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar and come in a 10-oz bag. Both bags retail for $2.99 but I received these courtesy of Tastykake.

The flavors on these were pretty weak. The pumpkin was especially mild; if it weren't for the slightly orange color, I would have guessed they were just plain cinnamon sugar covered donuts.

The Caramel Apple ones fared a little better with a very light caramel flavor and a somewhat apple-ish note; it hinted more at apple- or pear-flavored candy rather than baked or fried apples (although my view might be a little skewed by having eaten a freshly-fried apple cinnamon mini donut fairly recently).

Beyond the fall flavors, you get your average, somewhat dry, soft cake donut texture that is indicative of packaged donuts.

Overall, Tastykake's 2015 Fall Mini Donuts were a bit of a miss for me in terms of fall flavors. As regular mini donuts, they're still enjoyable as the crumb and cinnamon varieties.
