Review: Tasty Burger - Big Tasty Burger

Tasty Burger's signature Big Tasty features a 1/3-lb. beef patty, cheese, lettuce, pickles, red onions, tomatoes, and Tasty sauce.

Tasty Burger is a small chain in the Boston area that reminds me a bit of Smashburger.

The burger goes for $5.75; I went with onion rings and a drink for an extra $4.

The "onion rings" were actually onion strings (i.e. haystack onions); technically, they're still onion rings I suppose, but it's not exactly what I was expecting. They were nice and crispy, but a little burnt and cooled very quickly.

The wrapping of the burger was interesting. You're supposed to crinkle it back as you eat to keep everything neat and clean, but that doesn't work too well for taking pictures. Also, I didn't know that's what you were supposed to do with the wrapper until I looked it up later so it was just a little bit more difficult to remove versus a standard wrapper.

For the most part, the burger was really well made. The beef was juicy and the produce was all very fresh, crunchy where appropriate, and flavorful. The Tasty sauce appeared to just be mayo; nothing about it really stood out to me.

The burger was supposed to be cooked to medium but mine was more well done (My friends' burgers were both medium though so there's some inconsistency in play here). It was still juicy and tasty though. The cheese was very nicely melted with an even coverage across the burger.

The bun was very airy and fluffy as far as burger buns go but the bottom half was a little too delicate to sop up the meat juices without threatening to fall apart.

Overall, Tasty Burger's Big Tasty Burger was very solid and enjoyable. The pricing is very competitive (on the burger individually; not so much on the combo) and the freshness and preparation are well above your standard fast food chain premium burger (such as McDonald's Sirloin Third Pound Burgers, which go for $4.99).

I'm not saying I'd make a trip out to Boston for one of these, but if you happen to find yourself there (or live there), it's a really nice burger.
