Hardee's Steakhouse Thickburger features crispy onion strings, blue cheese, and A.1. Steak Sauce with a Black Angus Thickburger patty on a fresh baked bun.
The sandwich costs
$5.99 but I received one courtesy of the company.
I've only recently begun to develop a taste for the unique sharpness of blue cheese and have actually never had it on a steak, but I was still intrigued by Carl's Jr. / Hardee's newest creation.
Obviously, adding A.1. and onion straws to a fast food burger aren't anything out of the ordinary. Even though I felt I was shorted on the amount of onion straws, the two worked well together, providing a nice marriage of sweet and salty.
For the most part, I couldn't find the distinct taste of the blue cheese - probably also due to the underwhelming quantity of it. When I did hit one of the crumbles, it was unmistakable. I can’t really blame them for going easy with it because it does change the overall feel of the sandwich. The blue cheese itself was soft to the bite but sharp to the palate. While I appreciated the combination, I couldn’t imagine having to deal with too much more of it.
Unfortunately, the other cheese (Swiss) added almost no flavor at all and the beef patty itself featured no seasoning or even noticeable grilled flavor. I did enjoy the freshness that the lettuce and tomato brought to the burger. I tend to prefer burgers with produce over those that boast a stack of meat and cheese. The Steakhouse Thickburger sticks to its roots as a cheeseburger by letting the cool lettuce and juicy tomato slices mesh with the darker, saltier tones coming from the "steakhouse" ingredients.
Hardee’s fresh baked bun is more often hit than miss for me and this time was another hit. It was soft and buttery with some nice light toasting on the inside.
Overall, I enjoyed Hardee’s Steakhouse Thickburger but could have enjoyed it more. The combination of ingredients is a winner but the quality wasn’t high enough on every level for this to be one of my favorites.
