Starbucks' Cinnamon Morning Bun features single-origin Sumatran cinnamon swirled around flaky, buttery pastry, sprinkled with sugar on top.
The Cinnamon Morning Bun replaces Starbucks'
previous La Boulange Morning Bun at the same price point ($2.45). Like that version, it's a morning bun-cinnamon roll hybrid. Unfortunately for the morning bun fan in me, it also leans heavily towards the cinnamon roll side of the equation.
The new version distinguishes itself with a heavy crust of table and brown sugar on top that's good enough for a heartily crunchy shell. Beyond that there are light notes of cinnamon and butter and a crumb that's more bread-y than flaky.
They also got rid of the orange notes of the old version.
Overall, Starbucks' Cinnamon Morning Bun isn't too different from the previous version and is decent enough. I like that the orange note is gone but would prefer if it were more flaky, buttery, and crispy (
like it used to be).
