Review: Carl's Jr. / Hardee's - Pretzel Breakfast Sandwich

Carl's Jr.'s / Hardee's Pretzel Breakfast Sandwich features either a sausage patty, bacon strips, or slice of ham, plus egg and American and Swiss cheeses on an Auntie Anne's soft pretzel roll.

It goes for $3.29 in my area but I received this one courtesy of Carl's Jr. I went with ham since it seemed like it'd go well with the pretzel roll.

Upon picking up the sandwich in my hands, I was a little worried that the roll was stale as it felt a little too dense and solid. Fortunately, biting into it revealed a light pretzel flavor along with the proper soft, dense, and chewy texture. I liked that it wasn't salted because there's already a good amount of salt between the ham and cheeses. I prefer it over Wendy's pretzel bun.

I've eaten quite a few Carl's Jr. breakfast sandwiches by now so I can tell you, at least as far as my local branch goes, that they skimped on the eggs on this occasion. I mean, it was a nice flat-top-fried, folded egg, but there wasn't much of it to go around.

There was however plenty of melted cheese, which worked well with the pretzel roll. Taste-wise, it's your fast-food standard mild and creamy flavors.

The ham was thin but flavorful enough to stand out and offered a nice, sinewy contrast to the other components.

Overall, Carl's Jr.'s / Hardee's Pretzel Breakfast Sandwich worked out pretty well for me. The pretzel roll went well with the tried-and-true breakfast trio of breakfast meat, eggs, and cheese. Now if only they could bake them fresh for you like Auntie Anne's...
