Starbucks Spicy Chorizo Breakfast Sandwich features a spiced chorizo sausage patty, slice of aged Monterey Jack cheese, and caramelized onion egg patty on stone-baked potato bun.
I paid
$4.75 for one.
The sausage patty delivered a more seasoned profile to go with the typical fatty ground pork. It was juicy with a decent amount of spicy heat.
The potato bun developed a nice crust out of the convection oven that they use to warm their sandwiches. The shell lent a rustic feel while the crumb inside was moist, soft, and spongy. There were bits of green herbs here and there but I didn't detect any added flavor from it.
The cheese was thoroughly melted and fairly thick. It was good for a mild Jack flavor.
I didn't really notice the caramelized onion in the egg patty but it was thick and fluffy, as far as egg patties go.
Overall, Starbucks Spicy Chorizo Breakfast Sandwich was pretty good. The chorizo added a bit more oomph to the typical breakfast sausage patty but it's also pretty pricey, especially when compared to
the coffee chain's Sausage & Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich, which offers a just-slightly toned down but similar experience for around $3 (plus you can always add
one of their Sriracha packets for heat). The chorizo sausage patty doesn't differentiate itself enough from a typical breakfast sandwich to warrant the upcharge.
