Review: Taco Bell - Steakhouse Nachos

Taco Bell's Steakhouse Nachos feature a large tray of tortilla chips topped with a double portion grilled marinated steak, queso sauce, pico de gallo, sour cream, refried beans, guacamole, and three-cheese blend.

I picked one up for $6.19 (it's also available with chicken or seasoned ground beef instead of steak).

Even though it's only about a 10-minute drive back home from Taco Bell, my nachos were lukewarm at best, but, at least, almost all the chips remained crunchy because of it.

The new queso sauce offered the same creaminess as the the chain's nacho cheese but paired with the taste of peppers and a definite kick of spice. While I enjoyed the cheesy sauce, there wasn't all that much of it and the 3-cheese blend to go around given the amount of chips.

Beyond the queso, what's left is basically the same as Taco Bell offered with Boss Nachos and XXL Nachos before that. While very familiar, there's a nice, varied mix of flavors and textures. While they skimped on the cheese this time, there was a decent amount of everything else (although I had to dig a little for the beans).

The steak was meaty and tender with a lightly seasoned flavor. The beans contributed a savory earthiness, while the pico de gallo and guacamole added a little freshness and tanginess.

At the end of the day, Taco Bell's Steakhouse Nachos manages to offer a much spicier, just slightly more flavorful take on the chain's oversized nachos. I'd like twice as much cheese though.
