Krispy Kreme's Nutty Cocoa Ring Donut features a yeast ring donut dipped in Nutella hazelnut spread and topped with crunchy hazelnut pieces and a drizzle of chocolate icing.
They're
$1.59 each in my area but I received this courtesy of Krispy Kreme.
If you're a fan of Nutella, you'll be pleased to find a nice, even coat of it on a little less than half the donut. It's good for a smooth and enjoyable chocolate and hazelnut flavor that goes very well with the fried dough of the donut.
The bits of hazelnuts add a nice, almost grainy crunch and extra dose of nuttiness.
Unfortunately, the donut itself was a bit stale and dry. Krispy Kreme's signature donut is known for its cloud-like quality when fresh, so it was doubly disappointing. I tried heating it up for a few seconds in the microwave but it ended up chewier and oily.
Basically, if you can get a relatively fresh Krispy Kreme's Nutty Cocoa Ring Donut, it's excellent. Otherwise, it's just okay. If you don't want to risk getting a stale one, you might want to ask them to snag a regular freshly-fried ring donut off the conveyor before it goes under the glaze waterfall and perform a bit of Do-It-Yourself with your own jar of Nutella.
