Denny's Big Burger Show Burgers features a number of new and regular menu burgers. I went and tried the new burgers--the
Bacon Gouda Burger and the Honey Jalapeno Bacon Sriracha Burger--as well as the not-new
Bacon Avocado Cheeseburger.
Each of the three burgers include a side of fries and cost
$10.49 each but I received these courtesy of Denny's.
The Bacon Gouda Burger features a hand-pressed beef patty, four crispy bacon strips, caramelized onions, shredded Italian cheeses, Gouda cheese sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onions, and pickles on a brioche bun.
All three of the burgers included the same beef patty, varying amounts of bacon, the same produce, and the same bun.
The beef patties were cooked well-done but remained juicy and sported a very nice crust to them--there was actual crispiness to it. The texture of the beef was coarse and a just little crumbly. The veggies were pretty fresh and the pickles had a good crunch to them. The bun was dense, soft, and fairly sturdy but got a little wet on the bottom half, possibly from the veggies which are placed under the beef patties.
The Bacon Gouda was graced with the most bacon of the lot and I enjoyed the smoky, salty crunch immensely. The cheese sauce and the Italian cheese didn't fair as well though, while they offered a nice melt, the flavor wasn't all that impactful. The onions put in a nice sweetness but I could have used more of them too.
The Honey Jalapeno Bacon Sriracha Burger includes a hand-pressed beef patty, cheddar cheese, thick-cut honey jalapeno bacon, jalapenos, creamy Sriracha sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onions, and pickles on a brioche bun.
The honey jalapeno bacon didn't seem much thicker than the bacon on the other burgers and offered mostly the same crispy experience lightly tinged with sweet and spicy. The (pickled) jalapenos and creamy Sriracha sauce contributed a moderate but never uncomfortable heat.
The Bacon Avocado Cheeseburger A hand-pressed beef patty, bacon, fresh avocado, cheddar cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onions, and pickles on a brioche bun.
The bacon and avocado made for a pretty classic combination that worked really well here. The avocado added a rich, buttery note along with a soft, almost spreadable texture, while the bacon provided contrast with crunch and salty smoke.
Maybe I just prefer the classics (or maybe it's a Californian thing), but my favorite of the three burgers was the Bacon Avocado Cheeseburger. All three burgers were good but the Bacon Avocado provide the best balanced variety out of them. I'd follow it with the Honey Jalapeno Bacon Sriracha Burger and then the Bacon Gouda because it didn't have the cheesiness and pop of flavor I was hoping for (even though I loved its abundant bacon).
