Starbucks' Midnight Mint Mocha Frappuccino features extra-dark cocoa blended with coffee, milk, ice, and mint sugar crystals with a layer of whipped cream to break up the top and bottom halves of the drink. The drink is then topped with whipped cream and sprinkled with dark cocoa.
A 16-oz Grande normally goes for
$4.95 but I grabbed this during their recent half-off Frappuccino happy hour promo (for $2.47).
Compared to the chain's Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino, this one has more of a dark chocolate flavor to it and only the slightest note of mint that's more of a cool sensation than a taste. The coffee flavor mostly meshes into the dark cocoa.
The whipped cream in the center can make the drink a little creamier if you stir it in. Otherwise, you're just getting less drink and more leftover whipped cream at the end.
Overall, Starbucks' Midnight Mint Mocha Frappuccino makes for a nice drink if you're looking for a Frappuccino with a darker chocolate profile without too much extra sweetness. If you want to some discernible mint flavor, you might have to ask for a pump of peppermint syrup.
