Caramel M&M's feature the brand's signature chocolate and colorful candy shell around a soft caramel center.
A 9.6-oz. bag cost me
$2.99.
These are significantly bigger than the standard M&M's, as is the case for most M&M's that include some sort of filling or center. The candy shell feels a little thicker than a regular M&M as well, most likely to accommodate the greater weight of the contents inside. These Caramel M&M's are a little lumpy in appearance and more or less a slightly flattened sphere in shape.
When I first saw the bag design, I thought these would contain a liquid caramel. To my pleasure, these have a fairly chewy caramel center that is pleasantly firm but not tedious to chew. The flavor of the caramel is lightly salty and sweet, as expected. The texture and flavor reminds me a little of
Rolo candy, but with the crunchy candy shell. The Caramel M&M's are quite sweet with all the components combined.
Overall, I enjoyed the Caramel M&M's much more than I expected to. I found them incredibly satisfying to chew, but thankfully the sweetness builds to a cloying level fairly fast so I don't just sit and eat a whole bag within one sitting (ahem, Peanut M&Ms, I'm looking at you).
