Popeyes' Loaded Cajun Fries feature seasoned Cajun Fries topped with Cajun gravy, shredded cheddar cheese, and bits of bacon.
I picked up an order for
$3.
For the most part, these are fairly similar to other fast food Loaded Fries, like those
offered at Arby's and
Wendy's. Key differences would be the regular fries and cheese sauce for Wendy's version and ranch sauce on Arby's Loaded Fries.
Considering that the fries were sitting in gravy and topped with thoroughly melted cheese, they turned soft in short order. They still offered a nice, spiced flavor though. The gravy added an extra layer of meatiness with notes of bell pepper and black pepper without any added heat.
The cheese was pretty mild and there was a more than a generous amount of bacon bits flitting about. It wasn't super tasty or crispy but it was smoky enough and plenty salty.
When it comes down to it, Popeyes' Loaded Cajun Fries is indeed loaded with flavor but also loaded with salt, which made it a bit of a mixed bag for me. I liked the varied and layered quality but didn't enjoy the overt saltiness.
