Kinder Joy Eggs Arrive in US

Ferrero brings their Kinder brand to the US for the first time with the arrival of Kinder Joy eggs.

Made with kids in mind ("kinder" means "kid" in German), the Kinder Joy is a plastic egg that splits into separate sealed halves. One half is a dessert cup filled with two layers of cream--one sweet milk-flavored and the other cocoa-flavored that's meant to be eaten with an included spoon. Nestled in the cream are two chocolate-covered wafer spheres filled with sweet cocoa cream.

In the other half there's a "surprise" toy which is similar in concept to what you might find in a cereal or Cracker Jacks box.

Kinder Joy can be found starting this Friday, November 24, 2017 at Walmart stores nationwide. They're exclusive to Walmart for a 30-day window after which they'll be available at retailers everywhere. The suggested price is $1.59 per egg.

Ferrero also makes a similar product called Kinder Surprise, which is a hollow chocolate egg with a surprise toy inside, but they're illegal in the US due to a law that basically bans the sale of candy embedded with any sort of toy due to safety concerns (namely that very young children might accidentally eat the toy).
