Arby's Smokehouse Chicken sandwich features smoked chicken breast, pepper bacon, smoked gouda cheese, crispy onions, mayo, and BBQ sauce on a toasted star-cut bun.
I bought one for
$5.39.
The chicken was thickly-cut with a tender, moist texture and a surprisingly deep smokiness.
They forgot the bacon on my sandwich (maybe they confused it a little with the
Smokehouse Pork Belly Sandwich). Still the chicken made up for the smoky flavor and meatiness, while the crispy-fried onions lent the sandwich some crunch.
The cheese added a nice melt and light creamy notes, while the mayo gave the sandwich an extra savory depth and the BBQ sauce contributed a sweet and smoky zip. They kept the sauces separated (with one on top and one on bottom) so that the contrasting flavors hit one-by-one instead of intermingling.
The bun was soft and a little denser than your typical burger bun. It was sturdy enough and held together well.
Overall, I enjoyed the Smokehouse Chicken sandwich very much despite the missing bacon. The components were well-balanced and the smoky chicken was definitely the star.
