McDonald's Tests New Archburgers

McDonald's seems to be eyeing adding burgers at the $2 to $3 mark with a test of new Archburgers that range from $2.19 to $2.89 in price.

Archburgers come in three varieties: the regular Archburger (with cheese, pickles, onions, and Arch Sauce), L&T (which is the regular plus lettuce and tomatoes), and Bacon (which is the regular plus bacon). Notable features of the burgers include a new split-top bun and made-to-order fresh beef patties (as opposed to the chain's standard frozen patties).

The $2 to $3 price tag places the new burgers above the chain's McDouble but below the chain's Signature Craft sandwiches and Quarter Pounder. The beef patty for the Archburgers weigh in at less than 3 ounces (pre-cooked). The patty is smaller than the Quarter Pounder patty but bigger than the chain's regular hamburger patty.

The burgers are being tested on in several locations in Tulsa, OK and Plano, TX.

The name refers to the company's logo but also brings to mind one of the chain's notable failures--the Arch Deluxe, which was introduced and positioned as a burger for adults back in 1996.
