Subway's Croissant Breakfast Sandwich is something they're testing here in Southern California and features
a new croissant that's baked at each restaurant.
I went with the ham, egg, and cheese option for
$3.49. I picked pepper jack for the cheese and had them throw in some spinach, onions, and bell peppers.
The croissant was buttery and tasty enough but lacked in texture. The crust wasn't crispy but had a nice sheen to it. Inside, the crumb (that's what the inside of bread is called) wasn't in distinct layers but instead was squished together and, therefore, wasn't able to offer much in the flakiness department. Compared to other fast food croissants, it's not bad but it's not great either.
Beyond the croissant, the egg was soft and mostly flavorless, the ham was good for just enough flavor to let me know it was there, and the cheese was creamy, mild, and lacking in heat. The veggies were fairly fresh and mellow.
While Subway's Croissant Breakfast Sandwich is nothing to write home about, it's nice enough and, with the choice of veggies, can be a little healthier than other fast food options.
