Review: Hostess - Chocolate Peanut Butter Twinkies

Hostess Chocolate Peanut Butter Twinkies feature chocolate cake with peanut butter creme filling.

A 13.58-oz box of 10 individually-wrapped cakes was $2.99.

There's not as much creme to these as I'd hoped. I'm not sure if I got a weird batch but there was definitely less creme than is typically in a Twinkie. Whatever the case, the creme seems to be denser than normal with more of a paste-like texture rather than a fluffy creme. Looking at the ingredients, there's actual peanut butter in the creme, which may have affected the thickness of it.

In taste, the creme offers a strong note of peanut butter that works decently with the slightly metallic, chocolaty flavor of the somewhat oily cake.

Taken altogether, Hostess Chocolate Peanut Butter Twinkies turned out okay but I found myself wishing for a creamier, airier peanut butter creme and a better creme-to-cake ratio.
