Starbucks to Switch Plastic Lids in Place of Straws

With the stated goal of getting rid of plastic straws from their stores globally by 2020, Starbucks plans to replace plastic straws with strawless lids and/or "alternative-material straw options."

The strawless lid currently sees service at over 8,000 US and Canada stores for certain beverages such as the Draft Nitro and Cold Foam coffees (you can check out my experiences with the new lid here) and will be expanded to be the Starbucks standard for all iced coffee, tea, and espresso beverages in the near future (starting this fall in Seattle and Vancouver with a staggered rollout in the rest of the US and Canada in 2019).

As for as Frappuccinos go, Starbucks will be rolling out paper or compostable plastic straws (customers who need or prefer a straw can request one as well) for them.
