Stouffer's Sweet & Spicy Meatballs Fit Kitchen Bowl features meatballs, onions, bell peppers, and carrots with a soy ginger glaze over a bed of brown rice and quinoa.
A 12-oz box is normally
$3.99 but I received this courtesy of Stouffer's.
The meatballs were nice and tender with just a slight chew to them, while the veggies managed to retain just enough firmness to not be mushy.
Unfortunately, the rice was a little mushy although the quinoa offset it a bit.
The glaze was more like a thin sauce. There was a mild and sweet soy sauce base to it with just a touch of heat accented with ginger notes. The sauce is similar to the
"Asian-style" sauce of the Beef with Broccoli Bowl but spicier.
What I found off-putting was the watery consistency, and amount of the "glaze" made it feel almost like a rice porridge but with firmer rice.
When it comes down to it, Stouffer's Sweet & Spicy Meatballs Fit Kitchen Bowl turned out rather well in respect to the meat and vegetables component, but is middling when it comes to the rice and weak as far as the viscosity of the otherwise enjoyable sauce. Some cornstarch might have worked wonders here.
