Lean Cuisine's Moroccan-Style Spiced Beef features beef in a sweet & spicy Moroccan-style sauce served with couscous, sweet potato, chickpeas, and raisins.
I picked this one up for
$1.67 on sale.
I'm not all that familiar with Moroccan cuisine so I don't know what a Moroccan-style sauce is supposed to taste like but here it tasted like a slightly sweet and fairly spicy tomato-based sauce with a fair bit of seasoning to it. It's pretty good but isn't too different from
the brand's harissa sauce.
What actually set this meal apart was the couscous, sweet potato, and raisins which offered a diversity of (non-mushy) textures and varying degrees of sweetness. The couscous added a rice-like feel but was just slightly squishier while holding onto the sauce better than the parboiled rice they seem to use in some of their other dishes. The chickpeas joined in with an earthiness that rounds out the stronger sweet notes.
The beef came in good-sized chunks that were tender.
All-in-all, Lean Cuisine's Moroccan-Style Spiced Beef came together really well while keeping it interesting with different textures and flavors.
