Review: Taco Bell - Steak Rattlesnake Fries

Taco Bell's Steak Rattlesnake Fries feature marinated steak, nacho cheese sauce, creamy jalapeno sauce, and pickled jalapenos over a bed of seasoned fries.

I bought an order of them for $3.29.

My local Taco Bell has been pretty hit-or-miss with their fries and on this occasion they were already soft inside the restaurant, which meant the only thing crunchy in my order of fries were the pickled jalapenos. There were sizable slices and they put forth the expected sour and spicy notes.

Taco Bell's creamy jalapeno sauce has a nice, creamy, smoky, and lightly spicy jalapeno flavor on its own but did not hold up well against the seasoning of the fries. I think plain French fries would have worked better here as a result but I don't think Taco Bell will be putting any of those out anytime soon.

Given the lack of expression of the creamy jalapeno sauce versus the other ingredients, Taco Bell's Steak Rattlesnake Fries amounted to a fairly typical plate of fries topped with nacho cheese, steak, and jalapenos. It's not bad for the price but it's not terribly exciting, although I'm sure crispy fries would have helped it along. I've also tried the burrito version as well and, as you can expect, it's much the same except for being more portable.
