Review: McDonald's - Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich

McDonald's Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich is part of their new, limited-time World Wide Favorites Menu and features a grilled or crispy chicken breast filet, tomato and herb sauce, mozzarella cheese, slivered onions, lettuce, and sliced Roma tomatoes, served on a toasted artisan roll.

It costs $5.89 for the sandwich at my local McDonald's but I received this one courtesy of McDonald's. I went with the crispy chicken breast filet as it is the default option.

It looks like they went for full coverage with the wide but thin slice of mozzarella. Unfortunately, it was so thin that the creaminess and what little gooey quality there was did not come across against the rest of the sandwich.

The sauce was a mild combination of slightly salty, sweet, tangy, and creamy tomato. Combined with a nice bit of herb-y notes, it reminded me just a little of pizza (not just pizza sauce but pizza). You can consider it a more subtle version of ketchup-mayo with the addition of herbs.

The chicken filet was crispy and moist on this occasion but wasn't all that hot temperature-wise.

The onions, lettuce, and tomatoes were fresh but lacking in the flavor department. Surprisingly the onions were missing that almost-spicy, slightly acrid bite.

The bun is the same as you'd find on McDonald's premium chicken sandwiches. It's denser and more resilient than their plain bun, while remaining soft.

Taken altogether, there's not a whole lot going on with McDonald's Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich beyond the sauce and chicken. While both are nice enough, the sandwich comes off as pretty plain.
