Review: Burger King - Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Maple Waffle Sandwich

Burger King's Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Maple Waffle Sandwich features bacon, fluffy eggs, and American cheese served between two sweet and savory waffle "slices."

It's rather pricey in my area at $4.59 (which is in line with the other bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches at Burger King but you can get the other ones on a croissant or biscuit at two for $4--yes, buying two is cheaper than buying one with the current deal). The suggested price is $3.49.

While the maple waffle portion was good for a light and sweet maple flavor, it didn't really feel (or look for that matter) like a waffle at all. Instead, it felt more like a dense pancake or biscuit and looked a bit like a cookie. A light crisping of the crust veered it more in the biscuit direction.

The bacon turned out not so great. It wasn't crispy and didn't offer much in the way of flavor either. There was very little in the way of porky smokiness and it wasn't even all that salty. Both their ham and their sausage, while fairly middling, deliver a better representation of pork.

The egg was more spongy than fluffy but otherwise fairly standard except that it was somehow cooked with a sizable indentation in the middle. The American cheese was thoroughly and nicely melted.

While I wouldn't have minded getting the waffle "slices" by themselves for a dollar or two, taken altogether, Burger King's Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Maple Waffle Sandwich was pretty disappointing due to overly dense "waffles" and very weak bacon. It might be worth a try if your area has them for closer to $3.49 and you're not expect anything close to a waffle.
