Hostess Unicorn Cupcakes are a Walmart-exclusive, limited-time item that features creme-filled yellow cupcakes with pink and purple bits mixed in, topped with teal frosting, purple sprinkles, and a pink icing squiggle.
A 13.1-oz box sells for
$2.97 but I received this courtesy of Walmart.
For the most part, the Unicorn Cupcakes aren't much different than Hostess' regular iced yellow cupcakes. There's not extra flavors involved so what you're mostly getting is the teal, purple, and pink color scheme of various unicorn-themed foodstuffs.
The yellow cake was decently moist and fairly dense and contrasted well with the whipped cream-like vanilla creme in the middle. The little pink and purple bits might be good for slightly sweeter pop but don't provide any extra texture. The purple sprinkles, however, add a sugar crystal crunch that differs from the brand's regular yellow cupcakes.
The icing on top was hardened and a little waxy which is fairly standard for Hostess Cupcakes.
Overall, Hostess Unicorn Cupcakes turned out decently enough. They're ideal if you're a fan of the unicorn color scheme or want just a bit of crunch over regular Hostess yellow Cupcakes.
