Review: McDonald's - Spicy BBQ Chicken Sandwich

McDonald's Spicy BBQ Chicken Sandwich features a crispy-fried buttermilk chicken breast filet, slivered onions, pickles, and a spicy barbecue sauce on a toasted sesame seed bun.

I bought one for $5.39.

The sandwich comes with the same sauce as you get on the Spicy BBQ Glazed Tenders and as such was overly tangy with a decent amount of heat and lighter touches of sweet and smoky. While still not great, I found it a lot more palatable here than with the chicken tenders because there was a lot less of it here in comparison (although plenty enough to get a taste in every bite).

While the pickles added a light crunch, they weren't needed given the tang of the sauce. The lightly astringent onion slivers on the other hand provided a nice contrast against the same. I would not have minded more onions instead of pickles here.

The chicken filet had a lightly crunchy, slightly crumbly crust and was somewhat moist inside.

Taken altogether, while the rest of the sandwich turned out fine, I'm just not a fan of the new spicy barbecue sauce that McDonald's went with for the Spicy BBQ Chicken Sandwich. I think I would have liked it well enough with the sauce from last year's tenders.
