Review: Arby's - Garlic Butter Petite Filet Steak Sandwich

Arby's Garlic Butter Petite Filet Steak Sandwich features thick-cut petite filet steak, pepper bacon, green leaf lettuce, tomato, and roasted garlic butter on a toasted ciabatta roll.

I picked one up for $6.89.

The steak looked pretty nice with the visible meat fibers and a nice browned crust. It was fairly moist and tender enough to bite through without accidentally pulling out slices (which hasn't typically been the case for me with thick-cut steak sandwiches). Unfortunately, the meat was under-seasoned and the crust didn't add any additional texture.

The heavy flavor lifting is then left to the roasted garlic butter and pepper bacon. The garlic butter made the sandwich a bit wet but also added a bit of richness and a light garlic flavor, while Arby's solid bacon provided both smokiness and a crisp texture.

The leaf lettuce and tomato were fresh. The lettuce was crisp and the tomato was firm.

Despite being toasted, the ciabatta bun was soft throughout with smaller air pockets in the crumb (the inside part of the bread) than you typically want from ciabatta. It's not much different from a regular bun and fairly standard for a fast food ciabatta. I can't remember getting a ciabatta bun from a fast food chain that was anything close to crispy.

Overall, Arby's Garlic Butter Petite Filet Steak Sandwich was nice enough but wasn't particularly exciting. I love steak but I wouldn't miss it here if they replaced it with any of their other meats.
