Review: Thomas' - Trail Mix Pick Me Ups

Thomas' Trail Mix Pick Me Ups are soft-baked oatmeal squares featuring seeds, dried cranberries, and chocolate chips. Each pouch contains 8 small oatmeal squares for easy snacking.

A 7 oz. box containing 5 individual 1.40 oz pouches normally goes for around $3.99, but I got these courtesy of Thomas'.

The Trail Mix Pick Me Ups have a texture that is quite similar to an oatmeal raisin cookie that's been sitting out just a tad too long. It's not dry, per se, but it's certainly not moist and has a bit of a crumbly mouthfeel. It's decently chewy and firm.

I personally like the small size of the oatmeal squares because it makes them feel much more like a snack and less like a granola bar. I do wonder, though, whether their small size contributes to the somewhat drier texture.

Pumpkin and sunflower seeds add some additional texture to the Pick Me Ups and a light crisp. The flavor of the seeds is quite mild but provides just enough nuttiness in order to invoke the idea of trail mix.

The dried cranberries are minced quite small and evenly distributed throughout the oatmeal squares so that they impart a light berry flavor without much tartness. If I didn't read the package, I'd just assume that they were raisins. In terms of the sweet inclusions, the chocolate chips had a stronger presence and perhaps masked some of the tartness from the cranberries. The chocolate was semi-sweet and not particularly rich.

Overall, Thomas' Trail Mix Pick Me Ups taste and feel a lot like an old oatmeal cookie to me, but in a bite-sized format. The oatmeal squares are less sweet than a cookie but they can still help with a sugar craving. They may not be as convenient to eat on the go because of their shape and packaging, though.
