Review: Screamin' Sicilian - Mother of Meat Loaded Pan Pizza

Screamin' Sicilian's Mother of Meat Loaded Pan Pizza features a pan pizza topped with mozzarella, pepperoni, salami, julienne ham, parmesan and romano cheeses, tomato sauce, as well as spices and herbs. It also comes with additional diced pepperoni "smashed" into the bottom of the crust.

A 23.12-oz pizza was $4.99 on sale.

This was actually a bit of a mess to prep out of the box. While the pizza is more or less shrink-wrapped, there was just enough wiggle room for the tiny bits of cheese to form a full unbroken ring that sat between the pizza's edge and the rim of the paper pan that it sat in. I had to pick out the cheese in clumps to arrange it back on the pizza. Thankfully, the cheese didn't manage to get underneath the pizza and the pepperoni there was wedged in pretty well.

Out of the oven, the pizza was indeed meaty but it was to its detriment. The meats weren't particularly well-seasoned or flavorful and their textures were too similar. Additionally, with the amount of salty meats on and beneath the pizza crust, it got really salty, really fast. It was basically salty enough that I couldn't really taste sauce or the cheese. The sauce was fairly minimal in the first place but the cheese was plentiful and stretchy.

Beyond the general saltiness, the pizza crust itself felt doughy in texture--it was lacking in air bubbles and was somewhat chewy. While the edges were crispy, the bottom, though browned, was mostly soft. It didn't really feel like a pan pizza at all.

Overall, Screamin' Sicilian's Mother of Meat Loaded Pan Pizza was disappointing in both crust and meats. The pepperoni on the bottom is an unnecessary gimmick that just made for messier eating without contributing much in the way of flavor. Less (like much less) would have been more here. Their regular line of pizza was better when I tried it.
