I got one for $3.69.
The breakfast roll rounds out the bun options on Wendy's new breakfast menu, which also includes croissants and biscuits. The breakfast roll is dense and has a bit of a skin to the outside that makes it somewhat chewy. The texture almost reminded me of something in between a French roll or a hoagie bun, minus any crustiness. It didn't keep very well and the top began flaking strangely as time passed. The breakfast roll was my least favorite of the bun options I've tried on Wendy's breakfast menu.
The fried egg was cooked well and had some of that nice, crispy browning on the edges. For food safety reasons, the yolk was cooked through and a touch powdery on this occasion. I could taste the egg in the sandwich and it complemented the sausage patty well.
Wendy's Classic Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich was a fairly good offering that lives up to its name with the classic pairing of sausage, egg, and American cheese. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the breakfast roll and found it to be too chewy and dense--but not chewy enough to hit English muffin territory. In the end, it just felt like a lackluster bread. I would pick Wendy's croissant bun or biscuit over the breakfast roll any day.
