Review: Tastykake - Orange Sweet Rolls

Tastykake Orange Sweet Rolls feature orange-flavored icing over a sweet cinnamon roll.

A six-count, 14.4-oz box carries a suggested price of $2.99 but I received this in the mail courtesy of Tastykake (none of the supermarkets I frequent currently carry Tastykakes).

I'm not sure if it was because these arrived in the mail but they were stuck pretty good to the paper tray on the bottom. The rolls aren't separated so you have to either cut or tear them apart yourself. They seem to be packaged to be eaten in a group in a single sitting because once you pull out the tray out of the plastic wrapping, it's fairly difficult to get it back in.

There's an enjoyable sweet orange flavor to the rolls that manages to capture both the citrusy zest as well as some of the bitterness of the pith. They did a really good job with the flavor.

Beyond the orange notes, I got a fairly standard packaged cinnamon roll experience with a light cinnamon flavor and soft airy bread. The bread was just a bit gummy but the rolls turned out wonderfully gooey with 10 seconds in the microwave.

Overall, Tastykake's Orange Sweet Rolls stood out among packaged cinnamon rolls for the dead-on orange flavor and the way the rolls opened up and heated up really well in the microwave.
