Maruchan Gold Soy Sauce instant ramen features the brand's take on craft instant ramen noodles in a soy sauce-based broth.
A 3.79-oz package was
$1.50 on sale.
Out of the pouch, the noodles here were noticeably paler than the brand's regular instant ramen and were thicker as well. The soup base is a slightly, thickened liquid rather than a powder.
Once they're cooked the noodles were less curly than most instant ramen. There's also a slight chew and springiness to the noodles that make them a little more distinctive and enjoyable.
Since the soup base was liquid, it mixed better into the water without any granules floating about. The broth was light but delivered a savory richness and a bit of depth that was pretty tasty. I added some spinach and it went well with it.
Overall, Maruchan Gold Soy Sauce instant ramen put out a fairly impressive bowl of ramen. While it's not better than most ramen shops, it was better than a few of them. That being said, it's a bit pricier than the more popular brands of ramen, which tend to be a dollar or less (Maruchan's own regular ramen costs 25 cents a package). I can see where the costs came in though and found it worthwhile eating.
